Southern Speak Thursday

Today begins a new weekly segment called “Southern Speak Thursdays” where I will share with you Southern words or expressions from the nonsensical to the down right hilarious.

Today’s saying is courtesy of my maternal Great Grandmother Minnie Lee.  According to my mama if Grandma Minnie felt people were staring at her she would respond with…

“Pardon me, I just fell out a suitcase!!”

This expression most likely caught the nosy Nora off guard.  It’s definitely one saying I find delightful.

So remember, the next time you feel all eyes are upon you just do like Grandma Minnie and tell them you just fell out of a suitcase.  I’ll bet they avert their eyes immediately and you can go about your business with a feeling of great satisfaction.

How cute is that! That describes me today as I sit here in the middle of this explosion of clothes trying to unpack all these suitcases! We are back in the USA!!

As Southern as I am , I’ve never heard that one! My Daddy is constantly making sayings up…Love it!

That is a good one and one I had never heard before. My family has a lot of sayings my favorite being, “You can get use to hanging if you hang long enough.” I’m pretty sure that had to be Southern…Fun idea.
